What is Maharashtra Foreign Scholarship Scheme?

Foreign Scholarship Scheme 2024 is sponsored by Tribal Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra. Applicant student should be resident of Maharashtra and belong to Scheduled Tribe. This aims to provide educational opportunities to tribal students to pursue higher studies abroad. Under this scheme, eligible tribal students are granted scholarships to pursue various levels of education such as postgraduate and doctoral studies in reputed foreign universities and institutions.

Eligibility of Foreign Scholarship

** Applicant student should be resident of Maharashtra and belong to Scheduled Tribe.
** The ranking of the admitted university should be within 300 according to the latest QS World Ranking.
** Annual income from all sources should not exceed 10 lakhs.
** Age Limit – 35 years for Post Graduate and Ph.D. 40 years for

Important Instructions :
1. It will be Truly Online registration process hence it is admisable to have stable internet connection.
2. During registration process, candidate is not required to upload any kind of document. Photograph is required.
3. Candidate is advised to have mobile device with them during registration process as OTP will be shared on his/her mobile number.
4. Candidate is advised to have own personal email ID with them during registration process as OTP will be shared on his/her email ID.

Documents Required for Foreign Scholarship

1. Caste Certificate issued by the competent authority
2. Caste validity certificate issued by the competent authority
3. Age and Residence Certificate/Domicile issued by the competent authority
4. Aadhaar Card
5. Annual Income certificate/ Income Tax Return, Form no. 16 (Not Mandatory) issued by the competent authority
6. Unconditional Offer letter from the university/educational institution
7. Brochure of the University/educational Institution ( providing detailed information on tuition fee & living cost )
8. Passport of the Candidate
9. Two Letters of recommendation from two gazette officers/university professors.
10. Class 10th, 12th Graduation and Post Graduation Marksheet & Passing Certificate
11. Certificate of passing TOFEL/IELTS/Medium of Instruction

FAQ on Maharashtra Foreign Scholarship

1. Where should tribal students pursuing higher education abroad apply to avail the benefits of the Foreign Scholarship Scheme for Tribal students in Maharashtra ?
Applications for the Foreign Scholarship Scheme for higher education abroad must be submitted online only via the portal foreign-scholar.trti-maha.in:81/

2. Is there an income requirement to apply for a scholarship?
The combined annual income of both parents and, if applicable, the candidate’s own income, must not exceed Rs 10.00 lakh.

3. What income related documents will be required to be submitted to apply for a scholarship if the student or parent or both are employed?
If the student or parent or both are employed, their Income Tax Return, Form No. 16 and Certificate of income from all sources of the family for the previous financial year from the competent authority (not less than the tahsildar or naib tahsildar).

4. If the student is not working, what documents related to income will have to be submitted?

Certificate of all modes of income of the family for the previous financial year from the competent authority (not below the rank of tahsildar or naib tahsildar).

5. Are students who do not have a state domicile certificate or their parents eligible for the scheme?

No.

6. Are students with a family income limit of more than Rs 10.00 lakh eligible for the scheme?

No.

7. How will the selected students be given scholarships?
The scholarship amount will be credited to the students’ accounts, taking into account the approved expenses incurred by the eligible students in the current year. Students who have not yet deposited the amount of tuition fee with the institute will be directly credited to the account of the institute.

8. Which rankings will be considered for selecting the scholarship?
The latest available QS World Rankings will be taken into consideration while selecting students for scholarships.

9. Is it mandatory for the employed applicants to provide a no-objection certificate from the organization employer where they are employed?

Yes.

11. Which courses are given scholarships under this scheme?
Scholarships are awarded for Master’s Degree, Post Graduate Diploma and PhD courses.

12. Are scholarships given for degree courses?
No

13. Are scholarships given for executive master’s degree or executive master’s diploma and part-time courses?
No

14. Are girls selected for scholarships?
Yes.

15. Which educational institution abroad is required to get admission in to get the scholarship?
Candidates should be admitted to an educational institution ranked lower than 300 in the QS World Ranking.

16. Is caste certificate mandatory?
Yes.

17. The Conditional Offer Letter has been received from a foreign educational institution. Will it be considered acceptable?
If the conditional offer letter received from the institute is about the advance amount, the student will be required to demand an advance. No other conditional offer letter will be accepted.

18. What help will the government provide to obtain passports and visas?

It will be the responsibility of the student to obtain a passport and visa.
