Social Justice Financial Assistance Girl Acid Attack

The Governor of Haryana is pleased to formulate a scheme namely “Financial Assistance to Women and Girl Acid Attack Victims” to acid victims, financial assistance to help them lead their lives with dignity in the society.

Objective

Acid attack on women & girls is the result of an uneven socio-gender set-up. Quarrels, disobedience or willfulness and even the lack of any reason have resulted in acid attacks on women.

This social security scheme will allow a monthly pension to a woman or girl acid attack victim and allow her a continuous source of income until the end of her life. Thus, it seeks to restore, to an extent the right to live with dignity for a woman and girl acid attack victim.

Eligibility Criteria

(i) “Acid attack victim” here means a woman or girl who has suffered disfigurement of any part of the body or has become disabled due to acid attack or similar corrosive substance as defined under clause (r) (s) and (zc) of section 2 of “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016” .

(ii) Any woman or girl victim/s facing acid attack on or after 2.5.2011 will be eligible.

(iii) This scheme will cover women and girl acid attack victims who are residents of Haryana and shall have been residing in Haryana for at least 3 years prior to the date on which acid attack took place

Application Procedure

** An application may be filed either by the victim or by her heir claiming on her behalf in cases where the victim herself is unable to make an application.

** In case of a minor victim, the application may be made on her behalf by a parent or guardian.
** In case of victim being a married woman, the application may be made on her behalf by husband or parent or guardian.

Documents Required

The application shall be supported by the following documents –
(i) Medical certificate issued by the Medical Board at District level where the application is being made by or on behalf of victim.
(ii) Copy of the FIR/Complaint.
(iii) Copy of application made to or benefit received from Women & Child Development Department.

Financial Assistance

Financial assistance due to disability arising on account of acid attack will be granted. It is made clear that acid attack is defined as an attack by another person and does not include self- inflicted acid injuries, made advertently or inadvertently.
