IOA Fellowships :

Indian Orthopaedic Association has a very long history, of having served the members by number of excellent activities, for the upliftment of the profession and its members. Organizing fellowships is one of the important activities.

Many senior members have worked hard, to get them sponsored, by well wishers of the Association with a view to attain excellence in their chosen field. Members are requested to take advantage of these fellowships.

Indian Orthopaedic Association offers these fellowships to its members to help them visit various centres, attain training and attend conferences in India and Abroad.

1. IOA -Johnson & Johnson Travelling Fellowship :
** To expose the fellows to Senior Orthopaedic Surgeons with a view to interact, gain knowledge of attitudes and philosophy of work, skills, organization of departments and clinics, etc.
** No. of Fellowships – Four.
** The Fellows will start from the venue of IOACON and visit the four metropolitan cities viz., Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkatta and New Delhi and at least two other smaller centres (decided by rotation) during their travel.
** All applicants should be less than 40yrs of age at the time of last date of application.
** Financial help provided by Johnson & Johnson.

2. Dr. S.S.Babhulkar Fellowship :
** To expose the selected Fellow to a Subspecialty Centre in Orthopaedics.
** No. of Fellowship – One.
** Period of Fellowship – 3 to 6 weeks.
** Funded for Rs. 25,000/- by IOA.

3. Dr. G.S.Kulkarni Fellowship :
** To expose the selected young Orthopaedic Surgeons to a Subspecialty Centre in Deformity Correction, Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction.
** No. of Fellowship – One.
** Period of Fellowship – 3 to 6 weeks.
** Funded for Rs. 25,000/- by IOA.

4. THE IOA-WOC Fellowship :
Objectives :
Five fellowships available for members of IOA to be sent to centres of excellence within India to be trained in a sub-specialty of their interest (Trauma, Spine surgery, Arthroscopy, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Arthroplasty, Oncology and General Orthopaedics). This is for duration of 3-6 weeks.

Criteria :
Members of IOA can apply by sending a copy of their CV in the prescribed format clearly stating their field of interest and their preferred center for training. The actual dates of the fellowship will be fixed up as per the mutual convenience of the selected fellow and the center of his choice. Fellows will travel separately to the centers chosen by them.

Presently being funded for Rs. 25,000/- each by IOA

5. IOA JMRF Paediatric Fellowship :
** To expose the selected fellows to Paediatric sub specialty in Orthopaedics.
** No of fellowship – One .
** Period of Fellowship – 3 to 6 weeks.
** Funded for Rs. 25,000/- by IOA.

Age Criteria for above fellowships except IOA- J&J fellowship (2 to 5) are All the applicants should to be less than 40 years of age, at the time of last date for application. In case if there are no applicants, then persons above 40 years may be considered for the fellowship.

6. THE IOA-KOA Robert ROAF Fellowship :
** IOA member below the age of 45 years.
** IOA member not from a teaching institution (University / National Board).
** Preferably from a rural back ground where there are no medical colleges.
** Number of fellowship- ONE.
** Duration – 4 weeks.
** Attachment will be to a teaching institution only.
** More marks will be given for attending conferences conducted by state chapter / IOA, Papers presented in state / IOA conferences and publications etc.
** More marks will be given for the paper presented from non teaching position after he had completed post-graduation.
** Will help him to update himself for current development in Orthopaedics.
** In summary this will be only for practicing Orthopaedic surgeons who is predominately from rural back ground or not worked in teaching institution after completing post-graduation.

    I would like to join enthusiastically for training arthroscopic shoulder and knee surgery for both academic and hand skills purpose.
