About Dakshana Scholars :
Dakshana scholars are a rare breed of bright intelligent students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas across India. They are selected for the scholarship after Class 10 through a complex test – the Grand Dakshana Selection Test (GDST). The GDST is conducted simultaneously at 50+ centres across India on a particular day in March/April every year.
Testing the students in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, the GDST also has a tough Logical Reasoning section. JNV students are invited for this test by Dakshana based on merit at some internal examinations during Class 9 and 10.
A scholar offered the Dakshana IIT JEE scholarship is assigned to a JNV where Dakshana arranges for world-class quality preparation for the JEE. The scholar spends two years at the JNV (without a single day’s vacation) and works hard to compete with hundreds of thousand students who take the JEE in India.
Dakshana has to date (through May 2014) inducted around 1700+ in its 2-year scholarship program since 2007. Over 450 of these scholars have cracked the JEE to secure admissions into IITs while the others have cleared the AIEEE or JEE Mains to pursue an education in engineering and science at premium institutions like NIT and others in the country. .
Process :
The Dakshana Foundation believes in an expedient process. We can guarantee you a quick answer. We intend to add visits to your home, interviews with neighbours and your parents etc. as part of our diligence.
After awarding the scholarship, the foundation will make direct payments to the training institutes, landlords, tiffin service etc. It will also provide a monthly stipend to the Dakshana Scholar for sundry expenses. The foundation provides any support services needed by Dakshana Scholars.
For Dakshana Scholars that successfully get admitted to IIT after the 2-year preparatory program, it will be time to celebrate. If a Dakshana Scholar does not get admitted to IIT, but continues to show promise, the foundation will support them taking the AIEEE examination and endeavor to get them admitted to a good university.
We’ll also be open to supporting a second attempt at the IIT JEE. It will also support applying to admission to universities around the world and facilitate taking the SAT, TOEFL etc.
The foundation hopes to liase with student lenders around the world to bridge funding gaps so a gifted, impoverished student can attend virtually any university in the world that grants them admission.
