Elementary Level

Scholarships awarded at Elementary stage :
From the Financial year the rate of L.P. Merit and Merit-cum-Poverty scholarship has been increased from Rs.10/- & 20/- to Rs.50/- each and UP Merit and Meritcum- Poverty has been increased from Rs.20/- & Rs.40/- to Rs.100/- each. Similarly the numbers of Scholarship have been increased from 6000 to 10,000. Parental Income : Not to exceed Rs.20,000/-

Details Of Scholarship

Merit scholarship for lower primary

Eligibility and conduct of examination :
a) A student must be reading in a recognised primary school.
b) Maximum two students securing not less than 60% in aggregate shall be selected and sponsored from each school to appear the common scholarship examination.

c) The annual income of the parents should not exceed Rs. 20,000/-. State Govt. may alter this amount from time to time. Five students from each school in order of merit shall appear at the screening test to be conducted by the S. I. of Schools at the Block level.

The S.I. will select 12 students (the total no. of scholarships 3 x 4 ) to appear at the final examination. The concerned D.I. of Schools will conduct the final examination.

Conduct of Examination :
The common scholarship examination is conducted by the concerned D.I. of schools for award of merit and merit-cum-poverty scholarship. The written examination is conducted in the following subjects.
i) MIL (Oriya) – 100 marks
ii) Mathematics – 100 marks
iii) Social Studies – 50 marks
iv) General Science – 50 marks

Number of Scholarship :
The concerned D.I. of Schools will select 3 students from each Block out of total students appeared in the scholarship examination for award of scholarships.

Merit -cum-poverty scholarship at lower primary

Eligibility and conduct of Examination :
Same as ‘A’ above.

Number of Scholarships :
15 meritorious students of each Educaitonal Districts will get the scholarships in order of merit on the basis of the common scholarship examination fonducted by the D.I. of Schools. However, KBK Districts will get to more scholarships.

Rate and duration of scholarship :
The selected students shall get scholarship AT of Rs. 50/- per month during the studentship in Class IV & V subject to good conduct.

Merit scholarship for students of primary

Eligibility and mode of conduct of examination :
(a) 20% of the students of Class V from each School will be sponsored for common examination for merit and merit-cum-poverty scholarship.
(b) The annual income of the parents should not be more than Rs.20, 000/- per annum.

The selections of students are made basing on the result of Written Examination in the following subjects.
i) MIL (Oriya) – 100 marks
ii) Mathematics – 100 marks
iii) Social Studies – 100 marks
iv) General Science – 100 marks
v) Intelligence Test – 100 marks

Selection :
Six students of each Block will be selected for the scholarship out of the students appearing for the common examination as mentioned above. Questions are prepared by the Board of Secondary Education, Orissa, Cuttack.

Rate and duration of Scholarship :
The rate of scholarship for merit is Rs.100/- per month for two years. In both class III and Class V stage, if a student comes in both merit cum poverty and merit scholarship, he shall be awarded for merit cum poverty only.

Disbursement of scholarship :
The D.I. of schools shall draw and disburse the scholarships within one month of the receipt of allotment.

Merit -cum poverty scholarship for students of primary

Eligibility and Conduct of Examination : – Same as “C’ above.

Number of Scholarships :
15 students will be selected in each Education District under merit cum poverty scholarship.

Rate and duration of scholarship :
The selected students will get a scholarship of Rs. 100/- per month during his studentship of Class VI & VII subject to good conduct and good academic record.

Disburshment of Scholarship :
The D.I .of Schools shall draw and disburse the scholarships within one mont of the receipt of the allotment.

E. Budget provision :
There is provision of Rs. 26.40 lakh under Non-Plan Sector for Primary and Upper Primary scholarship as follows during the current financial year Primary Scholarship
a) Merit Scholarship – Rs.2.40 lakhs 7.20 lakhs
b) Merit-cum-poverty scholarship – Rs.4.80 lakhs Upper Primary Scholarship)
a) Merit Scholarship – Rs.9.60 lakhs 19.20 lakhs
b) Merit-cum-poverty scholarship – Rs.9.60 lakhs
Total : Rs.26.40 lakhs
