Saraswati Dalmia Scholarship :

This scholarship has been established with a donation by her daughter Yashodhara Dalmia, an art historian and an independent curator based in New Delhi.

There is one Saraswati Dalmia Scholarship for a MPhil/PhD student undertaking research in modern and contemporary Indian art. The value of the scholarship is £4,155 to be used towards tuition fees. The scholarship is for one year only and is not renewable.

Eligible Programmes:
** Full-time OR part-time MPhil/PhD in the Department of History of Art and Archaeology (new admissions, starting in September 2016), which involves undertaking research in the field of modern and contemporary Indian art.
** Applicants currently enrolled on the first year of the full-time (or part-time equivalent) MPhil/PhD will also be considered but will not be given preference.
** Open to full and part-time programmes.

Candidate Criteria:
** Open to Home/EU and overseas applicants.
** Applicants are expected to have an outstanding academic record, usually a 2.1 or first in their undergraduate degree and must normally possess or expect to be awarded a Merit or Distinction in their Masters Degree.
** New applicants to the MPhil/PhD programme in the Department of History of Art and Archaeology (new admissions, starting in September 2016), must
** have an offer of admission in the Department of History of Art and Archaeology by the scholarship application Last Date.
** have demonstrated in the research proposal of their application for admission that their research is in the field of modern and contemporary Indian art.
** meet the English language condition of their offer of admission to study at SOAS as soon as possible but no later than 1 June 2016. If your offer is conditional on English, please arrange your English test and ensure you meet the English requirements as soon as possible.

Candidate Assessment:
** Candidates will be assessed on academic merit by a Selection Panel consisting of three academic members.
** The assessment of your application will be based on the information in your application and in your on-line application for admission. Selectors will be looking at the degree results and also at academic references, statement and other relevant information.

Scholarship Application Last Date:
** Scholarship applications must be received no later than 17:00 (UK local time) on 29 January 2016.
** New applicants only (new admissions, starting in September 2016): You must submit a complete online application to your programme as soon as possible and then submit an application for the scholarship.
** Applicants applying for scholarships must also submit an application for admission well in advance. Please note that complete applications for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
** Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Notification of Results:
The successful candidate will be notified by e-mail by the end of June. If you have not heard from us by the end of June, you should assume that your application was unsuccessful.

Scholarship Application Procedures:

You must follow two steps:
Step 1:
** You must apply for this scholarship via the on-line scholarship application form.
** If you are a new applicant to the MPhil/PhD programme in the Department of History of Art and Archaeology (new admissions, starting in September 2016), please complete this on-line scholarship application
** If you are currently enrolled on your first year of the full-time (or part-time equivalent) MPhil/PhD History of Art and Archaeology at SOAS, please complete this on-line scholarship application. Current SOAS MPhil/PhD students only: You will need two references, one should be from your supervisor. Please send the reference form to each of your referees. The reference form may be downloaded from the box at the top right

Step 2:
** In addition to the online scholarship application, new applicants to the MPhil/PhD programme in the Department of History of Art and Archaeology (new admissions, starting in September 2016), must ALSO submit a COMPLETE on-line application for admission.
** Applicants must have an offer of admission at SOAS by the scholarship application Last Date. A complete application for admission includes transcripts, an explanation of the grading system for any degrees obtained outside of the UK, two references, CV, research proposal and a personal statement.
** The panel will be considering your scholarship application TOGETHER with your online application for admission. Please note that complete application for admission can take up to 4 weeks to be considered by the Department, although this duration can vary depending on the time of year. You should be prepared to wait up to 6 weeks in busy periods.
