What is DERT National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship?

National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) Examination 2025 is sponsored by Directorate of Educational Research & Training, (DERT) Meghalaya, Shillong. Students currently studying in Class VIII is eligible for Scholarship under the Scheme. NMMS Exam will be held on the 9th November, 2024 to select 231 student. Selected Candidates will be awarded Scholarship of Rs.12,000 per annum. Last Date of Scholarship is 27th September 2024.

Eligibility of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

** Students currently studying in Class VIII (Academic Session 2024 in State Government, Government Aided and Local Body Schools only.
** Students should have scored atleast 55% (50% for SC/ST) marks in Class VII Promotion Examination.
** Students studying in Kendriva Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodavas Residential Schools run by Central and State Government and students studying in Private Schools are Not Eligible for Scholarship under the Scheme.
** Parental Annual Income from all sources should not exceed Rs.50,000/-(Rupees Three Lakh Fifty Thousand) only.
** The Scholarship is provided to the students studying as regular students in Class IX in Government, Government-Aided and Local Body Schools which are renewed till Class XII subject to fulfillment of certain terms and conditions of the Scheme. The awardees must obtain a minimum of 60% marks in class X (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST) Examination or equivalent Examination for continuation of the Scholarship at Higher Secondary Stage.
** Selected Candidates will be awarded Scholarship of Rs.12,000 per annum by Ministry of Education and the Selected Candidates will have to apply On-line through NSP, NMMS Portal.

Examination Format of National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

1. Make Sure that the Admit Card is not detached from the Application Form. Admit Card will be sent to the Chief Superintendent of the Examination Centre after allotting the Roll Numbers. Candidate can collect the Admit Card from the Centre Superintendent of the Examination Centre at least one week before the Examination.
2. Reach the Examination Centre at least half an hour before the commencement of the Examination; and occupy the seat that bears your Roll Number.
3. DO NOT take Mobile Phones, Calculator, Mathematical or Physical table or any other kind of ready reckoned to the Examination Hall.
4. The Examination will be conducted in two sessions on the same day.

5. The Examination comprises of two papers as mentioned below:

Type of Test : Mental Ability Test (MAT)

Duration : 120 mins.
Paper : Paper-II
Type of Test : Scholastic Aptitude Test(SAT) comprising of Science, Social Science & Mathematics
No. of Questions : 90
Marks : 90
Duration : 120 mins.
Qualifying : 32% SC, ST and PWD and 40% for General Category & OBC separately in both papers.
Selection Criteria :
** There will be No Negative Marking.
** Students must pass the Exam with an aggregate of SAT and MAT to be taken together at minimum of 40% (32% for Sc/ST students).

How to Fill Application Form for NMMS Exam?

Coding Plan Read instruction carefully before filling up the Application Form.
1. Use only Blue or Black Ball Point pen. WRITE IN CAPITAL LETTERS. Do not mark or write outside the boxes.
2. Leave one box blank between two words. Limit your name and/or address within the space provided for it. Please sec example as given below.
3. Cross(x) only one of the appropriate boxes in items nos. 4, 5.6,7,10,11 and 21.
4. Please write code number in item nos 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 as given overleaf.
5. It is the responsibility of the Candidate and the Principal of the School to deposit the filled- in form with the State concerned Officer before the last date. No request for condoning delay in submission will be entertained whether it is due to the fault of the Candidate or the Headmaster/Principal of his/her Institution.
6 Incomplete or defensive applications are liable to be rejected.

Information in the Form should be Correct and will be treated as Final. Do not use INITIALS while filling up the Form. Application Forms containing instructions can also be downloaded from DERT website or contact the Office of the SDSEO of respective District.

Required Documents for National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship

The Candidates have to submit the Application Form duly filled up in all respect along with the following Documents to the respective Sub Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO).
1. Two passport size (School uniforms)
2. Report Card (Class VII).
3. SC/ST/ Certificates from Competent Authority
4. Disability Status Certificate from Competent Authority (if any).
5. Parental Income Certificate from Competent Authority.
NB: Application Forms without supporting documents and incomplete information will be summarily rejected.
