Sunshine Scholarship Scheme SSS2012 FAQ :
Am I qualified to apply for the SSS2012 scholarship?:
If you are a student in class 8-12 or studying for your first undergraduate degree in India or Bangladesh, you are eligible to apply, though we give preference to economically disadvantaged students and students from the Sundarbans delta. Your caste, sex and religion will not be taken into account by the Selection Committee.
Priority will be given to students from the Sundarbans delta
I live outside the Sundarban region. Am I eligible to apply?:
Our current plan is to focus on Sundarban area for five years (until 2017), but you are welcome to apply for the scholarship. Apart from the usual criteria, your selection will depend on the availability of funds and on whether or not we have zonal managers in your area to verify and to distribute the scholarship.
Will the SSS2012 scholarship cover the cost of text books?:
Yes, SSS2012 scholarships cover school/college tuition fees, cost of study materials, including text books and stationary. The scholarship does not provide for private tuition fees and other miscellaneous expenditures. if you want your scholarship to be renewed for another year, all expenditure receipts should be preserved and submitted at the end of the year.
How can I renew my scholarship for another year?:
Scholarship renewal is based on academic performance and progress the previous year. All expenditure receipts for the previous year must be submitted for scholarship renewal. The scholarship also depends on the availability of funds. This will be intimated by prior notice.
What does the organization expect from me?:
Students are expected to join SSS2012 once they complete their studies to help other underprivileged students. This is optional. However, we will highly appreciate that.
Are applications are accepted throughout the year?:
No. The Last Date will be announced. For scholarships for the year 2013-14, the Last Date was 30th September, 2012.
Must applicants already be in school/college?:
No. Students who have dropped out are encouraged to apply to continue their studies, if they can show that they are motivated.
Will I receive my scholarship in cash?:
No. The scholarship amount will be mailed as a cheque to the address provided in the application form.
Do you support physically/mentally disadvantaged students?:
Yes. We are committed to support all students irrespective of family background and mental and physical health.
Why does SSS2012 focus on the Sundarbans area?:
This is an economically deprived region with high college and school drop-out rates, and is still recovering from the cyclone Aila. Additionally, it is a region that some of the members of our governing body (including the founder) are familiar with, making it a suitable starting point for us. Our initial five year project, therefore, is concentrated in this region, but we aim at expanding our efforts as we grow.
How can I support SSS2012?:
We are currently raising funds for scholarships for the year 2014-15, and will gratefully accept any donation you can make. Details about the donation process are here. You can also join us as an active member.
