Scholarship/ Medal/ Fellowship For MBBS/MD/DNB (General Medicine):
Association of Physicians of India (Karnataka Chapter) Bangalore has decided to offer scholarship to MBBS students, medals and fellowship to DNB(General Meicine) graduates from the academic year 2007.

Students who are native of Karnataka and studying in institutions affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of health sciences, autonomous/deemed universities admitting CET candidates and recognized by Medical Council of India and institutions accredited by National Board of Examinations for running DNB (General Medicine) in Karnataka state are eligible to apply. Executive Committee can modify the number of candidates for the above awards periodically.
The fellowship is for candidates to undergo further training, after obtaining MD/DNB (General Medicine) in designated branches/procedures for a period of three months. This is to help primary care specialists to gain some training/expertise in some procedures (function specific). Preference will be given to such candidates who want to practice in smaller towns, semi urban or rural areas. The candidate will select the subjects/branch/procedure and the institution on subjects like gastrointestinal endoscopy, echocardiography, stress testing, dialysis (peritoneal and hemodialysis), emergency medicine, oncomedicine, geriatrics, HIV and tuberculosis, or any other course likely to benefit primary care physicians. Executive Committee can add or delete the subjects as considered necessary
Details Of Scholarship and Awards:
MBBS:
Scholarship (Total 20+2) : Male-10, Female-10, Children of API-KC Life Member 02.
Gold Medal-01nos: Applicable for candidates passing out in first attempt with highest aggregate marks as per RGUHS .
Fellowship After Post Graduation:
MD-1 and DNB-1. Commencing from every academic year . Only two fellowships will be awarded in each calendar year, one for MD and one for DNB.
Undergraduates (MBBS):
Eligibility criteria for award of scholarship:
** Candidates belonging to Karnataka State are only eligible.
** Should be studying in a college affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi university of Health Sciences, and other deemed/ autonomous universities in Karnataka State which admit students from CET, and recognized by Medical council of India.
** Should have been selected through CET or equivalent examination or as decided by the Government from time to time and allotted a free seat/low fee seat category.
** Marks obtained in II PUC and CET or other similar qualifying examination will be taken into consideration for selection of candidate.
** Parent’s income should be less than Rupees Two Lakhs and forty thousand (2.4) per annum. Basic Salary plus Dearness Allowance only to be considered for calculation of income.
** The scholarship will be continued till the completion of MBBS course provided the candidate pass all examination in first attempt and submit pass certificate /mark list and good conduct certificate from the Principal / Head of the institution yearly and at the end of each examination. Scholarship will be discontinued if the candidate fails at any stage of the course.
** When conditions are equal, the candidate from a rural background will be preferred.
Post Graduate: MD (General Medicine):
Eligibility criteria for award of gold medal:
** Candidates belonging to Karnataka State are only eligible.
** Should have obtained the MBBS degree from a college affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Heath Sciences and recognized by the Medical council of India.
** Should have been allotted a seat based on CET selection and allotted a free or low fee category.
** Should have passed the university examination in the MD course in first attempt and obtained the highest total marks as per RGUHS.
Eligibility criteria for award of scholarship:
** Candidates belonging to Karnataka State are only eligible.
** Should have been selected through CET or an equivalent examination and allotted a free seat / low fee seat.
** Should have been enrolled in a college affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and other deemed / autonomous universities in Karnataka state which also admit students from CET, and recognized by the Medical Council of India for MD General Medicine candidates.
** Parents/spouses income not more than Rupees Two Lakhs and forty thousand (2.4) per annum. Basic Salary plus Dearness Allowance only to be considered for calculation of income.
Eligibility criteria for award of gold medal:
** Candidates belonging to Karnataka State are only eligible.
** Should have obtained the MD degree from a college affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and recognized by the Medical Council of India.
** Should have been allotted a seat based on CET selection and allotted a free or low fee seat category.
** For DNB, candidates who have done the course in institutions accredited by the National Board of examinations in Karnataka are only eligible.
** Should have passed all the MD/DNB examination in first attempt and obtained the highest total marks.
Fellowship Post MD and DNB (General Medicine):
Eligibility criteria for award of scholarship:
** Candidates who are native of Karnataka State only eligible.
** He/she should be life member of central and state API.
** Karnataka natives who have done MD/DNB from institutions other than in Karnataka state are also eligible.
** Should have obtained the MD degree from a college recognized by the Medical council of India and DNB from an institution accredited by the National Board of Examinations.
** Age not exceeding 35 years or 3 years after post graduation.
** Candidates should undergo training or fellowship in courses, which are useful to primary care physicians. (Suggested areas are: endoscopy, echocardiography, threadmill and other noninvasive cardiac evaluation, peritoneal and hemodialysis, geriatrics, emergency medicine, oncomedicine, HIV or any program approved by the Executive Committee)
** Preference will be given to those physicians who intend to practice in rural/semi urban area.
** The candidates will select their centers, (preferably in Karnataka) which should be approved by the selection committee. Letter of acceptance, subject, type and duration of training from the institution should accompany the application.
** Training completion certificate from the institution should be submitted to the API at the end of training. The candidate will also submit a report to the API, Karnataka chapter with suggestions if any for improvement.
Candidates should submit:
** The application in the proforma attached countersigned by the Principal / Head of the institution and forward the same to The Honorary Secretary, Association of physicians of India, Karnataka Chapter, API BHAVANA,#16/F Millers Tank Bed, Vasanthnagar, Bangalore 560052.
** They will also submit the attached check list giving details of the enclosed documents duly signed by the candidate.
Call for application will be sent by 31 August every year.
Last date for receipt of application in API office is as under:
** MBBS / MD Scholarship. 31 October each year.
** MD/DNB Gold Medal – within one month of publication of the results.
** For Fellowship post MD/DNB: Application can be submitted twice a year before 31 March and 31 September every year.
