In a historic initiative to provide the level playing field to the Delhi Government Schools students, the Government has launched ‘Chief Minister’s Super Talented Children Scholarship Scheme’ from the current academic year. Under the scheme the Government has decided to identify the most talented students and to provide professional coaching and guidance to enable admission to premier Engineering and Medical Institutions of the country.
The Directorate of Education will conduct screening test for Class XI and XII science stream students studying in Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya and 54 Model Delhi Government Schools (being started as pilot scheme) within a week. 250 students of Class XI will be selected in premier coaching institutes for medical and engineering tests. Further 150 students of Class XII will also be selected this year. The Government has shortlisted three premier institutions – Vidyamandir, FIITJEE and Aakash as pilot project in this regard.
Each class XI student will undergo an intensive training of, at least, 850 hours at the designated training institute closest to his/her residence. The institute will provide the same online/printed study material, assignments, tests etc which it provides to its regular students. The students will be administered regular Model Tests and Feedback shared with their parents as done in case of other students. In addition, the institute will share this feedback online with the Principals of the students’ schools who will, in turn, mentor and monitor it personally
Cabinet also approved that DTC and Metro passes will also be provided by the Government free of cost to these students to travel between their residence and the training institute.
The class XII students will undergo, at least, 500 hours of intensive training capsule at the designated institute closest to their residence on the same terms & conditions of XI students.
The premier coaching institutes have agreed to provide same level all facilities and training to Delhi Government students roughly around one-third of their normal fees. The entire cost will be borne by the Delhi Government.
Shri Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister also holding the charge of Education Minister informed that most of our children from Government schools do not get into professional courses including IITs, NITs, Medical Colleges, Dental Colleges etc.
The reason is lack of resources and guidance during their school days. Admission to IITs and premier medical institutions is highly competitive and children need not only the regular class room teaching at the school level but also rigorous coaching and training by reputed coaching institutes, Shri Manish Sisodia added.
He informed that the Directorate of Education runs 1011 govt schools. At present, more than 15 lakh students are being imparted education in these schools. Out of 1011 government schools, 279 offer Science stream
This Government has felt that the students of government schools do not get a level playing field to prove their mettle. In fact, even those of them who are aware of the various career options open to them, more often, cannot afford the hefty fees charged by the professional coaching institutes as most of the centres of repute charge anything between one to two lac rupees for capsule courses for IIT/JEE/AIPMT etc.
To fill this gap this Government has decided to identify the most talented students and professional guidance will be provided to them during schooling itself. The best of the lot are proposed to be ‘captured’ right in the beginning i.e. as soon as they take admission in class XI in Science stream.
