The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of the Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (NCRA-TIFR) at Pune, India, invites applications for Jawaharlal Nehru Post-Doctoral Fellowships for the year 2018-19.

The fellowship aims at addressing the challenging opportunities in the realm of astrophysics and astronomy as well as software development and instrumentation.
Who Can Apply?
An applicant must –
** Be a young scientist with excellence intellectual calibre.
** Have at least one-year of post-doctoral experience before taking up the fellowship.
How to Apply?
Just follow the below steps to apply for the Jawaharlal Nehru Post-Doctoral Fellowship 2018-19.
Steps :
Step 1 : Create an application containing a research plan, a curriculum vitae and the names and email address of three or more referees.
Step 2 : Mail the completed application to the Dean, NCRA-TIFR Faculty at deanncra [AT] ncra.tifr.res.in.
Step 3 : Applicants are also required to request their referees to send recommendation letters to the Dean before the Last Date.
Fellowship Details
** Research activities at NCRA-TIFR are centered on low-frequency radio astronomy, where NCRA-TIFR operates the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT), a major international facility.
** Faculty members carry out research in a wide range of areas, including solar physics, pulsars, active galactic nuclei, the interstellar medium, supernova remnants, the Galactic Centre, nearby galaxies, high-redshift galaxies, fundamental constant evolution, observational and theoretical cosmology, and the epoch of reionization. NCRA-TIFR also operates another large observational facility, the Ooty Radio Telescope (ORT).
** Post-Doctoral Fellows at NCRA-TIFR are expected to pursue a vigorous independent research program.
** We especially encourage applicants whose research interests have potential synergies with radio astronomical studies or engineering activities, or which require a close engagement with the GMRT or the ORT.
Fellowship Amount
** The monthly salary of the selected fellows depends on their experience after the doctoral degree ranging from INR 55,000 to INR 75,000.
** The selected fellows will also receive a contingency grant of INR 32,000 per annum and a travel grant of INR 3,00,000 during the course of fellowship to enable them to travel for research collaborations and international conferences.
** They will also receive on-campus housing (if available), or a house rent allowance and medical coverage under this scheme.
Selection Procedure :
The selection of Jawaharlal Nehru Fellows will be carried out by a special committee chaired by the Director, TIFR-Mumbai. At any given time, there will be only 12 Nehru Fellows hosted by TIFR, including all its Centres.
