Udaan- A Programme To Give Wings To Girl Students :
UDAAN 2015 Online Application by Girl Students(Class XI) under Udaan to Compete for Admission at Premier Engineering Colleges
Application Last Date : 3rd August, 2015
To address the teaching gap between school education & engineering entrances and to enrich the teaching & learning of Science and Mathematics at School level, the CBSE has launched a project to provide free offline / online resources through virtual contact classes and study material on tablets, to girl students of Class XI and Class XII for preparation of admission test for the premier engineering colleges in the country.
The special focus of project Udaan is to address the low enrollment ratio of girl students in these prestigious institutions and to enable girl students to receive special incentives and support so that they can join these institutions and go on to take leadership roles in the future.
Importance Of The Project :
India has made significant progress towards improving access to quality education and in promoting gender equity. Yet girls are under-represented in good quality institutions of higher education and many professional courses. Besides this, it is widely recognized that girls from marginal socio-economic background are at a double disadvantage due to compounded effect of gender and social influences. This gender-gap and poor participation of girls and women in socioeconomic activities have negative repercussions for the development of fastest growing knowledge based economy. In field of science and technology, girl students are further under represented. Proactive steps, focused approach and additional measures are needed to promote women’s participation in these fields. One of the significant reasons is resource limitation that leads to preferential expenses on the education of male child.
Closing the gender gap in all spheres of education is one of the important benchmarks for devel- opment. It is envisaged that Udaan will help bridge this gap by improv- ing the socioeconomic status of girls and women through increased participation in professional educa- tion. Girls’ education does not only increase their abilities to deal with the problems of her personal and professional life, but the educational achievements of women can have ripple effects in the societal trans- formation efforts. Nurturing scientif- ic talent and addressing gender eq- uity is crucial to meeting country’s sustainable development goals.
