Madras University Merit Fellowship
It is hereby informed that the University of Madras is inviting applications from the eligible students for the award of Merit Fellowship in the name of “Madras University Merit Fellowship”.

Value of Fellowship :
Rs. 3,750/- per semester.
Eligibility Conditions
It shall be awarded to the students who are undergoing full-time Post Graduate Degree (all courses) There is no income limit
Selection of the Students
It shall be awarded to all the eligible Post Graduate students (all courses) who are undergoing full time courses in the University Departments for the entire Course based on the performance. Students of Self Support Courses and sponsored students are not eligible for the Scholarships. Every Department is entitled to get the Merit Scholarship.
Students of a Course above 10 in numbers can avail the fellowships and a Department can have a maximum of two Fellowships based on the number of Courses conducted by the Department.
How To Apply?
Duly attested Statement of Marks. The students who wish to apply for the fellowship should submit the filled in applications separately for the above Endowment Fellowships to the HOD’s of the concerned Departments as per the criteria laid down in the circular.
The Heads of the Departments are requested to forward the list of selected students approved by the Departmental Committee on or before 28.02.2018 so as to enable this office to place it before the Selection Committee for finalization for the award of “Madras University Merit Fellowship”. Applications received after the due date will not be accepted.
Terms &Conditions
1. The Fellowship shall be called “MADRAS UNIVERSITY MERIT FELLOWSHIP”.
2. The Fellowship is effective from the year 2003-04 onwards. The first set of awardees were selected from among the students enrolled for the academic year 2003-04.
3. The Value of the Madras University Merit Fellowship is Rs 3,750/- and it shall be paid to the meritorious candidate at the end of each semester.
4. The Fellowship shall be awarded to all the eligible Post Graduate students (all courses) who are undergoing full time courses in the University Departments for the entire Course based on the performance. Students of Self Support Courses and sponsored students are not eligible for the Scholarships.
Every Department is entitled to get the Merit Scholarship. Students of a Course above 10 in numbers can avail the fellowships and a Department can have a maximum of two Fellowships based on the number of Courses conducted by the Department.
5. Eligible students shall be decided based on the marks obtained at the end of each Semester subject to the Condition that the average mark may be at point of time obtained by the candidate shall not be less than 60% with 90% attendance.
6. The award is subject to passing all the papers in each semester with not less than 60% in aggregate.
7. A Committee appointed by the University for the specific purpose shall scrutinize the recommendations and select the candidates recommended by the Department Committees every semester.
8. The number of Fellowships shall be decided every year by the University and it shall be suitably distributed among different branches of study.
9. The Awardee of this Fellowship shall not enjoy the receipt of any other Endowment Fellowships or Endowment Scholarships. However, they are eligible to receive SC, ST, MBC, BC scholarships along with this Fellowship.
10. Awards or honors and Merit Scholarships awarded by the State and Union Government Scholarships such as Sports, Fine Arts, NSS, NSC and others are also eligible to avail fellowships under this scheme.
11. If the financial resources, permit the quantum of Fellowships may be increased.
12. The number and amount of fellowship and other conditions may be reviewed once in two years by the syndicate. If in any Semester the fellowship is not awarded, the unspent amount shall be added to the Corpus Fund.
