SRSF Fellowship:
Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute is pleased to announce a call for Applications for Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SRSF) 2017-18 for doctoral students, post-doctoral scholars and students enrolled in degree programmes in recognised Indian & Canadian universities or institutions to undertake research in areas/ fields in which scholars may desire/require research experience in Canada/India.

This Programme will provide an opportunity for a transformative cultural and educational experience. Scholars will get exposure in an international setting which will bring lifelong benefits to the individual trainees as well as to the institutions in which they would be affiliated.
Applicant must be from member institutions of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute from India or Canada and the affiliate or host institution must be from member institution of SICI in India or Canada.
Application Requirements:
** Completed electronic application along with all required documents should be submitted to http://shastriinstitute.org/ on or before 23rd July 2017 by 5:00pm (IST) and with a mention of programme name in the subject line “Application for Shastri Research Student Fellowship (SRSF) 2017-18”.
** Late and incomplete applications will not be entertained.
** In case the applicant is employed then Employer’s endorsement is must for application submission and has to submit ‘No Objection’ from head of the department/Institution with the application.
** Paper copy of application should be duly signed/sealed forwarded by the respective Department/ Centre/ School through competent authority.

** A letter of invitation/affiliation from the host faculty is must and the affiliate should be from member institution of Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute.
Disbursement of Funds:
The stipend will be disbursed in two equal installments. The first installment will be released upon signing of letter of agreement between SICI and recipient’s institution closer to the awardee’s journey to Canada or India.
The 2nd installment of stipend will be released upon submission of mid-term progress report. The remaining 10% of the award money will be released upon submission and approval of a final report to SICI by the recipient.

Can a Canadian/Indian citizen living outside of Canada/India apply for a Shastri grant?
Yes they can. Citizens do not have to be in their home country to apply for any of our programs/ awards. Please refer to the eligibility criteria listed within the description of each program/award for more information.
Can someone who is not a citizen or permanent resident of either Canada or India apply for a Shastri Grant?
No, unfortunately you have to be a citizen or permanent residents of either Canada or India to be eligible for and funding from the Shastri Institute.
When can I expect to be able to travel after being awarded an India Studies fellowship?
India Studies fellowship applications take about six months to peer review and adjudicate. Once the certificate of affiliation is secured the applicant must then apply for a research visa. From the time of application, applicants should expect to wait six months before hearing if they are successful and then wait another four to six months for approval of affiliation arrangements and approval of their research visa.
Who is considered a “Scholar” and would be eligible to apply for a Scholar Travel Subsidy Grant?
Anyone who is affiliated full-time with an academic institution of higher learning is considered a Scholar under the terms of this grant. This includes undergraduate students, postgraduate students, professors, librarians etc.
